Rebecca Noah Poynter is a versatile communications professional and writer with a unique national legislative accomplishment.

Rebecca’s 20-plus years in Corporate Communications provides her expertise in all aspects of communications. Her skill set: strategic planning, problem-solving, creativity and ability to build positive relationships. Her most recent personal and professional achievement was the Military Spouse Residency Relief Act, made law in November 2009, in which she used social media to build support for Federal legislation to provide a home state to military spouses.

In her business practice, OnPoynt Communications, Rebecca works as a writer and strategic communications consultant for tech companies.

Through 2005, Rebecca was Senior Manager of Corporate Communications for AT&T Wireless, in Dallas and Washington DC, where she managed media, public and community relations for multiple states.

In 2001, she was the Regional Public Relations Manager for Prime Co (Verizon), headquartered in DFW, building the brand and consumer adoption of wireless technology. Her career started at Texas Utilities (Oncor) in community relations, regulatory affairs and investor relations.

As a writer, her opinion pieces have appeared in The Washington Post, The Military Times and The Dallas Morning News and most recently in Foreign Policy. She is a regular features contributor to Texas A&M University’s The Texas Aggie magazine, where both print and online versions are repackaged for various university venues.

Rebecca works “on call” for FEMA as a writer and Community Outreach Specialist deployed to disasters, including Hurricane Ike and Hurricane Katrina.

As the wife of a U. S. Army officer, Rebecca led the coalition for the Military Spouses Residency Relief Act.  She petitioned for  the legislation, managed Facebook support of 16,000, testified before the Senate Veteran Affairs Committee in April 2009, called on all Senate offices, and developed a call campaign for 435 representatives. The President signed Public Law 111-97 on Veterans’ Day 2009.

Rebecca’s leadership is recognized in the Congressional Record and publications: The Washington Times, The Military Times, Texas Insider, and Military Spouse Magazine.

To thank her for national leadership, the U. S. Army awarded her the Outstanding Civilian Service Medal in June 2009 and the Margaret C. Corbin medal in July 2009.

She is currently pursuing a graduate degree and attends the University of North Texas Mayborn Graduate School of Journalism. She has a B.G.S. degree with a concentration in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas and a B.A. in Communications with a minor in Management from Texas A&M University.

She is a member of the National Press Club of Washington DC.
